Trishna (15)
Cinema - Fri 30 March - Thu 5 April & Fri 6 - Thu 12 April,
An Indian inspired version of Tess of the d' Urbevilles, directed by Michael Winterbottom and noted to be “as compelling as Hardy's original” (The Guardian). Slumdog's Freida Pinto stars as Trishna (or Tess) a peasant girl working to support her family when she is spotted by a rich London hotelier Jay (Riz Ahmed) who gives her a well-paid job in one of his father's hotels in Jaiphur. Seductive and technically superb this is a tantalising creation from a prolific British director.
