Fast Girls (12A)
Cinema - Fri 6 - Thu 12 July
There was bound to be a film about the London Olympics sooner or later and it comes in the form of Fast Girls by young award-winning director Regan Hall and just in time to cash in on July’s mega event. A street smart girl, Shania Andrews and a middle class girl Lisa Temple compete against each other to be part of the championship relay team. However they both have their personal adversities - Shania’s is desperate for a better life and her recent loss of her mother means she is now temporarily living with her Aunt, on top of that she is not getting much support from her older sister. Lisa on the other hand, comes from a very wealthy background but she has the added pressure to make the team because of her father’s championship legacy. Overall it is a feel good UK film that sends out a positive message to young people. Produced by Damian Jones (The Iron Lady) and co-written and stars Noel Clarke (Kidulthood, Adulthood). The soundtrack includes music from Example, Labrinth and Emeli Sandé.
